Monthly Food Box Program

Our monthly food box program is available to our guests once per calendar month.  We serve the Bend, La Pine, Sunriver, Tumalo, Sisters, and Prineville communities.

First time guests will need to fill out a new guest application and provide basic information that is kept in our confidential database.  Each guest will need to provide proof of residence - proof of income is not needed.

For returning guests, each month you visit you will do a digital signature confirming that you fall within the USDA limits for low to moderate income.

After a guest has signed in they will fill out a shopping list of the items that they would like to receive if it is available.  The shopping list is provided to a volunteer "personal shopper" who will then pack that guest's food box.

We strive to provide each of our guests with a nutritious assortment of food.  We average about 25 pounds per individual in a family.  We cannot guarantee what we will have available each day, so we appreciate your understanding as we try to provide you the best of what we have on hand.

When we can, we do try and accommodate our guest's special diet restrictions.

Grab & Go Pantry

The grab & go pantry is available to anybody who needs food, any day we are open.  This pantry generally offers an assortment of bread and pastries, but at times other food or personal items will be available here as well.

There is no need to sign in to help yourself to the items in this pantry.  We appreciate you being mindful of our other guests by just taking what you and your family need.

Kid's Korner

New Food Bank just for kids!

Children's food relief outreach

As of September 2017, The Giving Plate opened a food bank just for kids! Even though we have served kids since day one, we now have a space within our facility that is designated just for children ages 18 and under, called "Kid's Korner".  Kids can come in anytime during our open hours and are empowered to shop for themselves.  We are very excited to have this new outreach a part of The Giving Plate, as we especially love bringing smiles to the faces of the children!  Feeding the body...feeds the mind.

The children are thrilled to pick out and carry out their own bag of food, and the parents gratitude for this program is touching.  Because of generous grant funds specifically designated for food, and the abundance of kid-friendly food donated through the Bend Food Project, we are able to offer this new program.  We are excited to watch this program grow as we intentionally touch the lives of  food-insecure children in our community!

Currently, we offer Kid's Korner out of our 130 square foot office space.   We are excited that come summer of 2018 we will have a 600 square foot loft added to our facility to house Kid's Korner!  The addition will be completed just in time for the extra kids we will serve while school is out.

Having this space will allow us to grow Kid's Korner, and continue to creatively and compassionately reach out to the children in our community who are in need.

Please consider a donation to help us feed the over 600 kids who visit Kid's Korner each month.  We are better together and can not do what we do without the generousity of those around us!

Backpacks for Bend

Backpacks for Bend has been impacting the lives of children in Bend/La Pine schools since 2009, and in 2018 it became a program of The Giving Plate.

Backpacks for Bend is the only program of it’s kind benefiting underprivileged, and too often overlooked, children in the Bend/La Pine school district. In the 2018/2019 school year, The Giving Plate increased the program by 40% and is now serving nearly 450 food insecure youth in 28 Bend/La Pine schools with food for the weekend.
