HOW SEVERE IS THE NEED FOR FOOD RELIEF IN CENTRAL OREGON?
In Deschutes County, 13% of our population is food insecure with an alarming 1 in 5 children experiencing food insecurity (Per 2016 Feeding America Statistics). Over 4,400 individuals are unemployed in Bend alone, according to a survey in February 2019.
Children, 0-18, are welcome to visit Kid’s Korner any day we are open. Children must be present to receive food, and parent supervision is appreciated.
Where does the Food Come From?
Some food is donated by local businesses and individuals (see our grantors and local food providers here). Bend Food Project is another key community partner that helps us keep our shelves full through bi-monthly food collections. They are always looking for people to join them as Neighborhood Coordinators. Learn more HERE. Each week, food is purchased and donated from food bank providers such as NeighborImpact and the Oregon Food Bank. Lastly, The Giving Plate purchases fresh produce, protein, eggs and dairy from local grocers on a weekly basis.
Who Qualifies To Receive Food?
Families and individuals who are earning an income below the Federal Poverty Line (click here to learn more about the FPL) and those experiencing homelessness.
CAN SOMEONE ELSE PICK UP FOOD FOR ME?
It is best if you can come to pick up food yourself. If you are unable to come, please call and ask for a program director to document who you will be having pick up your food for you. We need a verbal authorization prior to allowing someone to access food on your behalf.
